Craig morris

Craig Morris is a versatile performing artist and educator who includes Physical Theatre, Mime, Contemporary Dance and Clowning in his repertoire of theatre and film performance, directing, teaching and choreographic skills.

Craig is continuously involved in numerous commercial and corporate productions as a physical performer, movement training specialist and Classical and Contemporary Mime artist, script writer, Director.     

 Highlights for Craig include choreographing and acting in A Species Odyssey and Homo Sapiens, two French films about human evolution (the first breaking viewership records in France). Craig starred in, and was a featured actor, as well as the physical performance specialist and actor trainer on AO The Last Neanderthal, a full length feature film set 30 000 years ago.

He has also recently starred in a short film entitled “Loot” which has garnered favourable reviews at the New York City Shorts Film Festival, One Screen Film Festival,

Official Selection St. Louis International Film Festival, 32nd Asbury Shorts Concert on Broadway and an Official Selection Claremont-Ferrand Short Film.

His first introduction to motion capture technology, was during the shooting of A Species Odyssey, in 2002 and for Homo Sapiens, shot in 2004. Since that time Craig has mo-capped for a couple of South African companies: numerous projects with Animmate, and with Flying Circus, both based in Johannesburg.

As a Physical Theatre performer Craig has been nominated for the MEC Gauteng Choreography and Dance Awards for Best Male Dancer in a Contemporary Style in 2005, 2007 and 2008. He won the award in 2005 and 2008.           

For the last few years, Craig has co-directed and trained performers for a production with Walking Tall, a pan-African educational project devised by Greg Melvill-Smith in collaboration withThe Palaeontological Scientific Trust (PAST), which performs throughout Southern Africa as well as Tanzania and Kenya. Craig is also active in Environmental theatre projects and has performed a Climate Change Action Play in collaboration with The Well Worn Theatre Co.

Craig is also highly active in the educational field teaching physical theatre, creative movement and theatre workshops extensively at Primary, Secondary and Tertiary levels.

Craig has also performed his Physical Theatre One-Man shows, Hero and Blood Orange at various venues in and around Southern Africa to great success.

Craig was also selected to perform with Cirque du Soleil.

Currently, Craig is the director of his own production company (Untouchable Productions), which focuses on the production and performance of original South African theatre work, as well as education through theatre. Craig, as scriptwriter and director, has also been instrumental in the launch of a financial literacy initiative in South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Rwanda and Kenya.

Craig continues to premier new, original theatre work, which educates and provokes critical thinking and innovation.
